Start an Affiliate Website – How to Start an Affiliate Website Business

This is an easy to follow guide on how to start an affiliate website. This guide however is not to persuade you to make an affiliate website business but rather it is for those who are already sure and decided to start an affiliate website.

This is intended for those who are looking to answer the following…

  • How to setup an affiliate website business through wordpress?
  • How to start up an affiliate website?
  • How to create and format content suited for an affiliate site?
  • Seo, list building, email marketing and more…

What are affiliate websites or niche sites?

You’ve probably heard about affiliate websites in one way or another. You also might’ve heard that it is one of the best ways to earn online.

Now the question is, is it all true? Well, you got to decide for yourself.

Having an affiliate website business in an offline sense is like having a grocery store. And of course, you earn by selling other people’s goods.

Well, affiliate marketing doesn’t go any different from a grocery store in an online perspective since in order to earn online as an affiliate, you also have to promote another company’s product or service for a commission. Either that or you can join a starting affiliate program and get paid by exposing their product to other people.

It’s not Always About the Product YOU Promote

There’s no one and done affiliate program that I can just recommend that you can make a fortune with. It always depends on what your site is about. It is about your calls to action on each page. It is about your properly placed affiliate links. It is about relevancy. It is about being credible and trustworthy.

It is just that sometimes there are these anomalies wherein people still earn even if their site does not cater to what they are promoting. I don’t want to rain on your parade but the chances of that happening are 1 out of 100,000. And I don’t think you’re that one guy by a long shot. If you are, then you won’t be reading this.

So How Does an Affiliate Website Business Work?

First, you have to know how to start up an affiliate website that provides useful information.

The building part of your affiliate website is actually easy. What takes a ton of time, effort and focus on your part is thinking of the topic or theme for your site. You should already have a plan of what your site is going to be way before you even build it (hint: think keywords…*wink)

Of course you have to put in content. Now through your content, you casually promote (notice how I used the word ‘casually’?) products or services that are closely related to your site and topic. And for every sale you’re going to have, you make a commission! Sounds easy?

To be honest, unless you scale it up, you won’t be seeing anything close to a $100 payout. When I say scale it up, I’m talking about expanding on what is already working.

Let’s say you’re earning a steady income on a particular product, then there’s no way that you should not keep doing that or make a way for it to get bigger. In short, find what’s working, rinse and repeat.

Here are some of the reliable affiliate programs:

What Makes the Best Affiliate Marketing Blogs Work?

You’re probably wondering why some blogs make it and some affiliate marketing blogs don’t. I wish I can give you a straight answer but the truth is that there are a lot of factors to consider.

But what I do know is that these types of blogs don’t SELL you stuff. They just suggest and promote. They have a very good way of making customers think that it is their idea to buy.

So what’s the secret?

It’s no secret. People love to buy. They just don’t want to be sold. So buying has to be their idea and not yours. We are just basically supporting their idea to buy. Am I making sense?

Another reason is that these blogs are usually trusted affiliate website businesses. Try to put yourself in your customer’s shoes. If you were to choose on where to buy something, isn’t it a more safer approach to buy from someone you think you know and trust?

So once you learn the skill of getting them on that buying mode, success may not be that far behind.

Advantage of an Afilliate Marketing Business

You Don’t need To Create Your Own Products

One of the main reasons why I suggest that you start an affiliate website is because of the fact that you don’t have to create your own product. You don’t even have to be a guru on internet marketing for you to earn. In fact what we do is to leverage other people’s talents and credibility to make it online.

I really wanted to start my own affiliate program before but because of my 8 hour job, I was never able to do so. Aside from the time restraint, I also feel pressured in such a way that I need to create a product almost every month and that I need to have some sort of a status in order for my product to be bought.

Being an affiliate however, you get to wear the product owner’s credibility without that much pressure to make your own (although it is recommended that you are seen as someone credible).

No Hard Selling

Hard selling is a big no-no when you’re trying to start an affiliate website. Again this goes back to the reason that people love to buy, they just don’t want to be sold. If hard selling is your main tactic, then starting an affiliate website business is not really meant for you.

You see, the best way to build your affiliate website is to create quality content that coincides with what you promote. Your affiliate product and content should match what your site is about.

If you are someone who knows how to use your links contextually inside your article then an affiliate website business is a good choice for you.

Disadvantage

It Takes Skill to start an Affiliate Website

Not everyone will be able to make $10,000 a month just because they tried. Each year, it gets harder to start an affiliate website since there is more competition now than it was a couple of years ago.

So before you can fully dive into this new endeavor, you have to learn new skills like marketing, writing, copy writing, and content marketing to name a few.

To start an affiliate website business isn’t supposed to be as daunting as it is always pictured out to be. But it also doesn’t mean that you can just half-heartedly post random blogs in a page and that’s it. You have to know the product you promote (which sometimes means buying them or at least requesting for a review copy) so that you may be truthful and credible when you write about it.

It’s Hard to Get Traffic

Of all the problems that you’re going to face in your early affiliate marketing life, driving traffic to your content and to your offers is the hardest.

I don’t think any honest internet marketing affiliate will tell you otherwise. ‘Hardest’ may seem like a harsh word but it is. I don’t want to sugarcoat things for you especially if you have plans of making your site a top affiliate marketing blog.

You ought to know that there are risks involved and what I can do is to minimize those risks by sharing some of the things I’ve learned along the way in this website.

Building a Successful Affiliate Website Business

Content is king when building websites and a starting affiliate website is no exception. One must build a quality content website that offers real world solutions and focuses on only one theme. By doing so, you build credibility because you write about things that you obviously know about and offer it as a solution to other people’s problems.

You don’t get visitors just because you mixed and mashed blog posts into a page, put a bunch of affiliate links that doesn’t even match what your content is and then call it a website. Like what I said earlier, if you own an affiliate website business, you don’t do hard selling. An affiliate website recommends services and products that are closely knitted to what the website is all about.

Why You Need (or not) to Listen to Me

No I’m not an expert in affiliate marketing, far from it. And I’m also not a guru. In fact, I’m just like you still trying to make the most out of what I know on how to start up an affiliate website business.

I have three niche websites running (going four) which is not much but I have learned to capitalize on what is working and have worked to slowly scale it up. Like I’ve said, I’m no expert.

But that same fact is what makes this website a must for your success. I share stories and not theories. What you’ll be reading on this site is all based on how I go and will go about things…like a friend giving out pointers to his fellow newbie.

There is a lot of good content to go through and I think that it is a good idea to bookmark this page so that you can read and understand each posts at your own pace.

It depends. If you’re just starting out and don’t yet know if you want to monetize your site then I suggest you go the FREE route.

But if you have plans on earning from your site then the best option is to invest in paid hosting.

      Hope that helps…
